About Dingle Dry Stone Walling
Traditional craftmanship. Built to last.
Origin
In March 2009 I attended a one-day dry stone walling course run by the Devon Rural Skills Trust (DRST), a charity focused on the preservation of rural crafts in Devon. I was hooked, and soon accepted onto DRST’s training scheme, offered to those looking to make a career from rural skills.
The scheme covered not only dry stone walling, but also other aspects of stone work such as stone faced bank repairs and laying cobblestones.
After completing the training scheme I became an instructor for the DRST, teaching on the regular courses offered by the Trust.

Learning from the best
Taught by master craftsmen
I was taught in the main by two master craftsmen, Dave Carlisle and Dave Hannaford – here we are (me on the left, Dave H in the middle, and the much missed Dave C on the right).
Their knowledge, patience and generosity in sharing their skills have had a huge influence on my journey and the standard of work I take pride in today.
